Well the Ipod 4g has hit streets and I picked one up a few weeks ago. I have owned every generation of Touch and was looking forward to the rumours of Front and Rear facing camera on the 4G.
I have been playing around with an app called Fring for a while now and have found the VOIP SIP capabilites and Skype are very handy when I want to make a call when I am in range of a Wi-Fi hotspot. My hopes of a Video Call with Skype from my Ipod to my wife at home on the PC were dashed though. Apparently Fring was asked by Skype to disable Video Calls. There was news a few months ago that Skype was going to release a new app for the Iphone that was going to enable Video Calls. So far they have remained very quiet and the app has not been released. I am speculating that they have to wait for Apple to release thier FaceTime PC/MacOS app before they can release thiers. Time will tell, I personally think Facetime will be the future of voice communications.
The 4G has some nice features that other generations were lacking.
Front and Rear facing Cameras
Bluetooth
Retina Display
Voice Control
Wireless "N"
and many more
My only complaint so far is the 1Mega-Pixel camera. The pictures look great when view from the Ipod but when viewed on a larger screen they can be quite grainy. I did manage to find a neat app that helps.
It is called ClearCam. It basically takes 6-10 quick pictures and aligns them then refines them to produce an overall clearer picture. I picked it up for $1.99 at the app store.
